DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN & YOUTH MINISTRIES

Who we are: Clinton United Methodist Church is a Spirit-filled, Christ-centered church, vibrant in worship and prayer, helping people connect with God. We seek to equip every person to use their spiritual gifts effectively in service, mission, and ministry. We develop Christian leaders and enable our youth to become leaders in life and ministry. Our Children’s and Youth Ministry is the foundation of our church and we are looking for a passionate, committed leader to design, develop, and implement inspiring programs!


Central Goal: To organize and direct safe, inclusive, and age-appropriate ministry to children from kindergarten through 12th grade and be the point person to connect parents to the ministry.


Position Summary: First and foremost, we need an enthusiastic leader who recruits and puts volunteers in place to succeed at using their gifts. There will be expectations to properly oversee all aspects of the Children’s and Youth Ministry including Sunday mornings, VBS, mission outreach, and other experiences to help children and youth learn about and live out their faith. While there is no expectation to be a master of all of these things, there is an expectation of continual learning, empowering volunteers to learn and act, and a commitment to improve our presentation each and every day.


Hours: This is a part time position. We expect the person who fills this position to work approximately 20 hours per week. Compensation will be based on experience and expectations.


Programming Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the collaborative selection and development of curriculum for Sunday School, Youth Group, and Vacation Bible School.
  • Responsible for each group’s special events, outreach responsibilities, and celebrations.
  • Responsible for coordinating events, fundraisers, and celebrations.

Ministry Responsibilities

  • Create an open, loving, and inclusive space for children and teens to explore and ask questions about their faith, the church, and who they are as children of God.
  • Identify and mentor youth with leadership potential and empower them to develop and use their skills in the service of Jesus Christ.
  • Prepare and deliver the Children’s Time message on Sunday morning during worship.
  • Assist the pastor in worship services when needed.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Report directly to the Senior Pastor.
  • Recruit, schedule, and train leaders as well as supervise, evaluate, and spiritually nurture leaders for all children’s and youth ministry programming.
  • Ensure Safe Sanctuary policies are communicated and followed.
  • Manage the Children’s and Youth Ministry budget and review and approve expenses.
  • Communicate with families through letters, phone calls, text, and social media.
  • Collaborate with staff on relevant congregational communications.
  • Hold meetings to coordinate Sunday School and Youth Group leaders and teachers.
  • Be prepared to substitute for teachers and other leaders who are temporarily or unexpectedly unable to be present for scheduled activities.

Qualifying Requirements

  • Articulate a clear and inspiring vision and have a passion for creating inclusive, vibrant, and exciting Children’s and Youth programs that will inspire and energize our children, youth, and families to follow Christ and be active members of the church.
  • Possess organizational, interpersonal, and relational skills for working with children, youth, families, church members, staff, and clergy.
  • Possess administrative skills in areas of technology, recordkeeping, budgeting, and scheduling.

Compensation: $15 to $20 per hour.
