facility closing update

November 24, 2020

Dear Clinton UMC family,

As you’ve no doubt seen in the news, we’ve had a surge of COVID cases in New Jersey. Federal and state guidelines are becoming increasingly stringent. Although religious organizations are allowed some exemptions, we know that the virus does not discriminate.

Throughout this journey, the Responsible Reentry Team has been led by the guiding principle of ensuring that zero infections are spread through United Methodist activity. To keep you and our community safe, the Team has made the difficult decision to close our 12 Halstead facility. November 22 was our last outdoor worship, and the social hall will close as of November 29. We will remain closed for indoor and outdoor gatherings at least through January 2021.

We know this is hard for many of you, particularly for those who have limited opportunities for connection. However, focusing on the safety of all is central to our charge to love one another.

We will continue to offer several online options for worship, community groups, and Advent studies. You’re invited to join us.

We’re hopeful that we’ll be turning a corner against this pandemic soon. In the meantime, thank you for all you do to keep one another safe.

Nick Tonzetich, Chairperson
